Review: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs. Sony Xperia C: Price and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a powerful addition to the Galaxy smartphone line. Samsung Galaxy Grand 2
Released a few months earlier, in January this year, the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has been praised as one of the best smartphones with dual SIM capabilities to ever be released. However, could it compare with the Sony Xperia C when it comes to a price to specifications ratio.
Design
The design of the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 closely resembles the one of its predecessor. Even though it is pretty hard to get used to using with one hand due to its size of 5.78 x 2.96 x 0.35 inches, the smart device is nonetheless easy to grip. However, it may become a bit tiresome to the hand when extensively used, because of its weight of about 163 grams.
Specifications
Having in mind its price, the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has powerful specifications. With its Quad-Core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor and featuring an Adreno 305 GPU that are backed up by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and as much as 1 GB of RAM the smart device is able to let you enjoy some high-end mobile games as well as most applications on the Android OS mobile market.
Display & Camera
The 5.25 inch display of the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 may not be perfect, because of its overall pixel density of only about 280 ppi, but is nonetheless decent enough to provide you with a great multimedia experience. With its 720 x 1280 pixels of resolution size and decent brightness and contrast levels it is able to be seen under almost any lighting conditions.
The 8MP camera of the smartphone is a bit of a setback. Even though it is backed up by some amazing pictures and their quality is decent enough for sharing through the various social networks, it nonetheless lacks HDR and is pretty dependant on the lighting environment. However, the video recording is quite nice being at 1080p and 30FPS with stereo sound recording capabilities.
Battery Life
The battery featured on the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a Li-Ion 2600 mAh one, giving it an overall decent battery life. The smart device is able to withstand as much as 370 hours in standby mode and about 17 hours of talk time.
Sony Xperia C
Released a few months prior than the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, back in June, 2013, the Sony Xperia C is one of the best additions to the Xperia smartphone family that features Dual SIM capabilities. Even though its price has been substantially lowered, could it compete with the newer Galaxy Grand 2 smart device, when it comes to a price to specifications ratio?
Design
The Sony Xperia C is a perfect choice for any lifestyle, due to its stylish design. Being 5.57 x 2.92 x 0.35 inches in size and weighing about 153 grams the smart device is pretty hard to get used to using with one hand, but is nonetheless pretty easy to grip.
Specifications
The specifications of the Sony Xperia C are decent enough to compare with the Galaxy Grand 2. As it features a Quad-Core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-7 processor, a Mediatek MT6589 chipset and a PowerVR SGX544 GPU, backed up by as much as 1 GB of RAM, the overall performance of the smart device is not that noticeably slower compared to its rival.
Display & Camera
The biggest setback of the Sony Xperia C is its display. Although its panel is 5.0 inches in size, its overall pixel density is only about 220 ppi making its resolution 540 x 960 pixels. Even though this is decent enough for smart devices with smaller screens, the pixelation on the 5.0 inch display of the Xperia C is quite noticeable and may ruin the multimedia experience for some.
On the other hand the 8MP camera featured on the Sony Xperia C is quite better than the one featured on the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2. Having HDR as well as other features that back it up, let the device easily capture every moment from your life in unique quality. Moreover, the 1080p video recording with video stabilization capabilities are decent enough for most video recording enthusiasts.
Battery Life
The Li-Ion 2390 mAh battery is quite decent as well, giving the Sony Xperia C a great battery life. The smart device is able to withstand as much as 605 hours in standby mode and about 12 hours and 25 minutes of talk time.
Overall
Even though it has been released last year, the Sony Xperia C is good enough to compare with the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 for the title of best smartphone with Dual SIM capabilities in the mid-price range of the mobile market today. Even though its price is substantially lowered, due to its poorer screen quality, the only question that truly matters is if you are willing to spend a few bucks more for a better multimedia experience and what exactly for you will use your smart device.
