Sony’s Plan for Virtual Reality Gaming

Recently, Sony has been promoting the return of virtual reality devices mostly in part to their push for 3D gaming. This week, a Sony spokesman stated that “3D technology is just one step into the future and full 3D immersion in a virtual reality will be the next,” says Sony’s Mike Hocking. In anticipation of that, Sony has been hard at work developing a new head-mounted virtual display aptly titled “HMD device”. Hocking stated “We’ve now got the power to do it, we’ve got the screen resolution to do it, we’ve got the processing power to update fast enough so we can have very immersive experiences on head-mounted displays in gaming in the not too distant future. Being in a virtual world where I can see my virtual hands or a virtual gun with all the things we can do in the gaming world is going to be absolutely amazing,” he said.
Sony first showed this device off over seven months ago at the CES conference. However, there is no release date, nor exact specifications, on the device itself. On a positive note, Sony will be allowing a select group of Japanese citizens to test out their new device at this year’s Tokyo Game Show on September 22nd-23rd. One can spend hours thinking of the endless possibilities this device can lend to within the gaming community. The chance to fully immerse yourself into your favorite video game universe would be a dream come true for some.
