Samsung Galaxy S5 to be Delayed?

A smartphone is announced, companies boast about all the amazing new features and then decide on a launch date. And then, after all is done, there’s suddenly production issues that crop up. Sometimes due to the design the making and assembling takes too long. Or sometimes the addition of a new feature sends launch plans down the drain as the phone is delayed. We’ve seen it happen to many devices and looks like Samsung Galaxy S5 is the latest entrant in the “production glitches” rant.

Smartphones have been trying to outdo each other in camera features, pixels and lenses. Infact, the smartphone camera has reached such heights that each phone-maker is now relying on the smartphone’s shooting capabilities to boost their brand and make sales rather than focus on the main aim of a phone, i.e. calling or staying connected.

We saw it happen with HTC One last year and looks like Samsung is now getting caught in the same rut. HTC One, which WOWed everyone with the sleek looks, amazing ergonomics and the Ultrapixel camera had to be delayed as the camera proved to be the stumbling block. Samsung Galaxy S5, boasts of a 16 MP snapper which is bigger and better than the 13 MP snapper of Samsung Galaxy S4.

The issue seems to be the fitting of the lenses. Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S5 are similar when it comes to thickness. Samsung Galaxy S5 has an all new ISOCELL lens which comes with 6 elements which need to fit one on top of the other. However, the slimness of the camera doesn’t change. S4 lens came with 5 elements making it a relatively better fit.

Also, the thinness of the lens can’t be altered. Even a slight change in the thinness will majorly affect the quality of the photos. So clearly, Samsung has to deliver what they promised on. Which means 6-element lenses with the same camera chassis and slimness with the thickness of the lens also staying the same. Phew! Daunting task for Samsung, one might think.

Not only is the giant facing camera issues, a sudden fire at one of their PCB manufacturing plants is also said to affect productivity. Samsung Galaxy S5 is all set to roll out across 150 countries on the 11th of April. Or do we say was? Because looking at things currently, if Samsung does not get their act together soon, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is bound to be delayed in many countries.
