Budget Windows Phones set to compete with Android in India
Microsoft recently announced that it will not carry any license fee for the Windows Phone OS for some Indian manufacturers. As a result, Indian smartphone manufacturers like Karbonn and Lava have already started production of Windows based smartphone. The companies may be launching the devices in the next few months.
Karbonn and Lava are among few popular local brands in India, these companies sell smartphones in the budget category. Windows Phone OS became popular with its adoption by Nokia. The company launched multiple devices in the Lumia series of phones with some really cool features. Today when you think of Windows Phone the first thing comes in mind is Lumia and not Microsoft.
A majority of Lumia phones which are based on Windows Phone OS carry a very hefty price tag except Lumia 520 and Lumia 525. This is one reason why Indian buyers did not build a taste for Windows Phone smartphones. Now with local manufacturers entering the Windows environment we can expect some feature packed Windows Phones with a budget price tag. Lets see how this move helps Microsoft expand its reach and compete with Android in India.
