US firm Kirusa acquires Bangalore startup Cooltok
US firm Kirusa has acquired Bangalore-based startup Cooltok for an undisclosed sum. Kirusa develops voice and social media solutions for emerging markets and is based out of New Jersey.
An announcement by Cooltok on its official site states,” Kirusa, a leader in voice and social media solutions for emerging markets, announced that it has acquired the business of Cooltok (also known as Plusray). As a result of this transaction, Kirusa has acquired all the technology, workforce and intellectual property of Cooltok.”
The Bangalore-based company has developed a mobile app called Cooltok which was launched just couple of months ago on Google Play store. It was co-founded by Sreenivas Karanam, who is also the company CEO, Prakash Kaja and Thomas Mathew. Post acquisition, all three will be joining Kirusa’s Bangalore office.
The announcement also quotes Inderpal Singh Mumick, CEO, Kirusa, “The technology developed by Cooltok’s team, as well as their knowledge and experience, will be invaluable in delivering the third wave of messaging apps that look to combine the benefits of the carrier services with the benefits of the OTT services.”
Cooltok app lets its users share files, send pictures and text messages. Users can also indulge in group chat with their family and friends. To register with Cooltok app, all you need is a mobile number. One of the USPs of the app is that it can work on any network.
